HELP WANTED!

First, thanks for all the support we have received from you over the past couple of years. The time has now come when we need financial support. At our meeting in Pietermaritzburg a few weeks ago we decided we could no longer operate as a purely voluntary organisation due to the huge demands that are increasingly being made at all levels for SWC involvement. The workload has become too heavy and the travel expenses, particularly, too high for us to do what needs to be done. We are dealing with big players who are backed by large budgets. To continue to make the fundamental difference to communities and to sustain the Wild Coast we all love we need to raise R1 million.

This will enable us to:

  • pay an independent engineering company to look at alternative routes to the N2 Toll and to do an independent cost benefit analysis of all options, including upgrading existing roads.
  • employ a coordinator full time
  • have funds in the event that fast legal action is required
  • run development workshops in local communities to empower their decision making around viable alternative development options
  • promote sustainable development of economic initiatives that will bring ‘grass roots’ benefits to local communities
  • lobby for, and educate about, alternative, sustainable development proposals in line with the Wild Coast Conservation and Sustainable Development Plan. (WCCSDP)

Donations in kind will also be gratefully received so if you think you have something that we would find useful, either in skills or in kind, let us know as a friend with website skills has recently done.

SWC is also looking to build a database of volunteers we can call upon if and when necessary. Skills might range from the mundane such as stamping and posting letters, copying CD’s for distribution, to skills such as detailed engineering, development, or legal knowledge. We find we regularly need the help of pilots, 4×4 drivers and owners, translators ( English into Xhosa, Afrikaans, French, German and vice versa) as well as bases along the Wild Coast where we can find cheap or free accommodation in order to facilitate meetings with local communities.

If you are willing to become a volunteer please let us know what skills/services/specialist knowledge you have to offer, where you live, and how we can contact you.

If you know of any other way that we can raise funds, or are willing to undertake any sort of fundraising initiative on behalf of SWC please let us know. We have set ourselves the goal of raising R1 million in the next six months.

We WILL do our utmost to protect the natural environment and the people of the Wild Coast.

DONATE NOW!

Warm regards
